Not everything in a home deserves the landfill. Furniture in decent condition, working appliances, and usable household items can find a second home through Phoenix-area donation organizations — often with free pickup right from your house. Here's who to call and what they'll actually take.

Habitat for Humanity ReStore — Best for Furniture and Appliances

ReStore has three Valley locations — Phoenix (115 E. Watkins St.), Tempe, and Scottsdale — and offers free home pickup Monday through Friday, 9am to 3pm. They accept sofas, chairs, dressers, dining sets, working appliances, cabinets, building materials, tools, and lighting. Call 623-551-6000 to schedule. Items must be accessible at ground level with no more than 2–3 steps. ReStore proceeds fund affordable housing construction across the Valley.

Note: They may decline particle board furniture, entertainment centers, and heavily worn or damaged items.

St. Vincent de Paul — Largest Network in the Valley

SVdP operates dozens of thrift store locations across Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, and Glendale. They offer free standard pickup Monday through Friday, 8am to 4pm (call 602-254-3338). They accept gently used clothing, household items, furniture, and small appliances. They do not accept tube TVs, waterbeds, used carpets, or non-working appliances.

White Dove Thrift Shoppes — Supports Hospice of the Valley

White Dove has locations in Midtown Phoenix, Scottsdale, Mesa, and Glendale (17045 N. 59th Ave.). They offer free home pickup for furniture and large items — call 602-274-3683 to schedule. They provide a two-hour arrival window and a 30-minute courtesy call. They accept sofas, chairs, dressers, working appliances, and more but will not take large entertainment centers, glass-top tables, sleeper sofas, or china cabinets.

Goodwill — Most Locations, Easiest Drop-Off

Goodwill has dozens of Valley locations and accepts most household items for drop-off. For large furniture, they offer free scheduled pickup. They also have 24-hour donation bins at many locations for smaller items. Find the nearest location at goodwillaz.org.

Bridging AZ Furniture Bank — Focused on Families in Need

Bridging AZ is Arizona's only furniture bank, serving families transitioning from homelessness since 2004. They accept furniture, appliances, and household items. Contact gotlegsfurniture@gmail.com to arrange a donation. Their work directly furnishes empty apartments for families and veterans — one of the most impactful donation options in the Valley.

When Donation Isn't an Option

Donation organizations have standards. Items need to be clean, functional, and in decent condition. Broken furniture, stained mattresses, and worn-out appliances are typically rejected. If you're clearing out a home where some items are donateable and some aren't, Minutemen handles the whole job — we sort as we go and bring usable items to donation centers rather than the landfill whenever possible.
