How bulk trash pickup works in Phoenix, Peoria, Glendale, Surprise and across the metro — schedules, limits, and what happens when the city won't take it.
Bulk trash pickup is one of the most misunderstood city services in the Phoenix metro. Every city has different rules, different schedules, and different limits on what they'll actually haul. Here's how each major city in our service area handles it in 2026 — so you don't end up with a rejected pile sitting at your curb for weeks.
Phoenix switched to an appointment-based system in 2024 and it's now permanent. There is no longer a fixed quarterly schedule. You can schedule up to four bulk trash pickups per year and appointments must be made at least 3 business days in advance. Each appointment allows up to 10 cubic yards of material — roughly the size of a large moving truck load. Schedule online at phoenix.gov or call 602-262-6251. Items must be placed at the curb no earlier than 7 days before your scheduled date, and no later than 5:30am on the day of pickup.
Peoria allows two bulk trash pickups per year by appointment. You must schedule through the city's Solid Waste Division — you cannot simply put items at the curb and expect pickup. Peoria limits each collection to 10 cubic yards and will not take landscaping debris like rocks or bricks. For pickups beyond the two annual allowances, Peoria charges a Special Haul fee starting at $72.10 per 30 minutes of loading time. Schedule at peoriaaz.gov or call 623-773-7890.
Glendale offers bulk trash pickup once per month for residents of single-family homes and duplexes. Items should be placed at the curb between 6am Thursday before your scheduled collection week and 6am Monday of that week. Glendale residents can also request additional pickups for $99 added to their water bill. Leave at least two feet between your pile and any water meters, utility boxes, or fixed objects. Do not place items in containers — they will be hauled away with the trash.
Surprise has one of the more flexible systems in the Valley — free on-demand pickup by appointment with no fixed schedule. You can schedule as many pickups as needed, free of charge, until you hit a cumulative 20 cubic yards per year. After that threshold you'll need to arrange alternative disposal. Schedule at surpriseaz.gov.
Both cities offer scheduled monthly bulk trash pickup for residents. Check the city websites for your specific pickup zone and week. Goodyear residents can find schedules at goodyearaz.gov and Buckeye at buckeyeaz.gov.
City bulk trash programs have real limitations. They won't take paint, tires, motor oil, hazardous materials, or most construction debris. They also require advance scheduling that may not fit your timeline — especially if you're cleaning out a home before a sale, dealing with an eviction, or just ready to get it done today.
